Psychopharmacology of Street Drugs: A Crash Course for Mental Health Professionals.
Frequently as mental health clinicians our clients are using psychoactive substances for recreation, self medication, and/or addiction maintaining. These drugs can significantly impact the success of our treatment interventions and the health of our clients. To make matters worse drug types and use trends keep involving making it hard to keep up with current information about drugs of abuse. To make matters worse mental health training programs frequently do not have a psychopharmacology program of any kind. This training is intended to help mental health clinicians understand the current primary drugs of abuse and how they may impact their clients. Participants will leave with knowledge that will help them have conversations with their clients about their use and potential risks involved

Substance Use Challenges in Private Practice
Statistics from 2016 show that only one in eight people who meet criteria for a substance use disorder will get formal addictions treatment. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has recognized this problem and is working to address it. However there are many clients with substance use problems who end up in psychotherapy and refuse to get formal addiction treatment. To make matters worse progress in psychotherapy can be difficult or nearly impossible unless the substance use is addressed. This training is designed to help psychotherapy practitioners improve in identifying substance use problems in clients and find effective ways to address these issues.

Ways of Combining Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are two very different ways of approaching problems addressed in clinical settings. However CBT and MI can complement each other when working with people with a wide variety of behaviorally oriented challenges. This training is intended to help participants identify and practice ways of combining the two treatment strategies. Please note this is an advanced training and does not teach MI or CBT fundamentals. Participants with experience in both approaches have reported getting the most out of the training.
